How to Vote in the New Whangarei District Council System

  1. You’re now asked to rank every candidate in your ward — but this can result in UNWANTED candidates getting in, due to how votes are counted.
  2. To avoid this:
  3. ✅ Only rank the candidates you want elected
  4. ❌ Leave blank the ones you don’t want elected
  5. Example List of 5 Random Candidates: Paulie, Mark, Joe, Arthur, Ralf
  6. SAY: you want Joe first, then Anne, then Mark — then You Rank Them 1, 2, 3:
  7. 1 = Joe  2 = Rachel 3 = Mark / Don't want = BLANK
  8. AND: You don’t want Paulie and Arthur – Then You LEAVE THEM BLANK DON’T HELP THEM GET ELECTED:
  9. See Table to the right:
  10. Check candidates previous voting records
